MSFS2024: Sim Update 1 – Progress, but Uncertainty Remains

The Microsoft Flight Simulator Team confirmed in the latest Development Update from February 27, 2025, that work on Sim Update 1 (SU1) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 is ongoing. This is fundamentally positive news, as SU1, being the first major update after the release of the new simulator, promises important improvements and bug fixes.

However, communication regarding progress and the timeline remains vague. The statement that “we currently have no launch date to share” raises questions. While the announcement of a new beta version for testers soon is a step in the right direction, concrete details are lacking.

Less important, as there is no shortage of alternatives, is the in-sim Marketplace that is to be released along with SU1. There is hope that Microsoft has learned from past mistakes and will offer a more stable and user-friendly marketplace. The performance of the marketplace in the previous simulator was often a point of criticism, so it is crucial that this area is improved in MSFS 2024.

In summary, the development of SU1 and the associated Marketplace represents a critical milestone for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. The situation is particularly explosive given the fact that many buyers paid for the product over three months ago and are now waiting for the promised improvements and bug fixes.

Despite a team of allegedly 800 employees, Microsoft seems to be struggling with the complexity of the simulator and the high expectations of the community. The lack of transparency regarding the timeline and content of the update exacerbates the uncertainty. The announced new beta version must now urgently deliver and show that Microsoft has the challenges under control in order not to further strain the trust of the paying customers and to fulfill the promise of an improved flight simulator experience. Otherwise, growing disappointment and criticism of the communication strategy and management of the project are looming.

Yup. This is absurd. It’s like getting a sofa… no cushions… over 3 months later…
yeah, still waiting on the cushions…
When are they getting here?
hmm… we don’t have the slightest clue.
But we paid for them?!…
Microsoft, get your team together, give us a schedule and stick to it. This is not the first complex software development project.
