There are two runways at the airport which are asphalt paved which are mainly used for general aviation purpose, however the airport is also utilized for air-taxi, and military operations. Alaska Airlines offers 737 flights and Bering Air operates many smaller aircraft out of Nome.

Nome Airport, is also known as a gateway to the city and the surrounding region, which is primarily accessible by air. The airport is a major transportation hub for the region, playing a role in the movement of both passengers and goods.
