Lockheed Martin now sells an Academic licence paid US$49.95 of Prepar3D. Their Flight Simulator is based on FSX graphics engine they purchased at Microsoft. The package comes with five models, eight paints and numerous custom animations and other features. To check out the full listing and to purchase, click here.

It’s not quite the news that many flight simulator enthusiasts will be hoping for, but Lockheed-Martin have announced a lower-cost license for their Prepar3D flight simulator, targetting schools, classrooms and students. The new academic license, costing US$49.95, is for “educational efforts at or below undergraduate level” and joins the US$199 retail license and US$9.95pcm developer subscription.

Fed up of having to rush through your pre-flight, because you know that if you don’t you won’t have enough battery charge to start the engine? Most simmers are aware of the ridiculously short battery life in FSX which has, unfortunately ported over into ESP and hence from there into Lockheed-Martin’s Prepar3D as well. Flight 1 have now released “BatX”, a tool that allows you to alter the time taken for the battery to discharge and, if necessary, to recharge it with a single click. One thing that simFlight’s staff would never think to call Washington DC is “Tropical”, but, nevertheless, developers Tropicalsim have created a rendition of its Ronald Reagan National Airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004, Flight Simulator X and Lockheed-Martin Prepar3D. DCA is an interesting airport. Situated only 3 miles from Downtown Washington, it is the closest airport by far to the United States’ capital city, but its approaches are complicated by this – and the proximity of some very important buildings – resulting in the airport limiting its flights and capacity to get larger aircraft to use more distant and larger…
