Australia continues to draw the attention of designers—apart from Drzewiecki Design and Fly Tampa, it’s mostly local labels like AUScene making waves. In the second week of September, AUScene released Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. Let’s take off and see what’s waiting there…

Reality
The airport (www.wellcamp.com.au), known by its IATA and ICAO codes, WTB and YBWW, sits roughly 130 kilometers west of Brisbane in Queensland, Australia. Toowoomba, the city that lends its name, is about 15 kilometers to the east and has a population of around 150,000. The region is mainly profiting from coal mining and gas extraction.
After Brisbane Airport (opened in 1998), Wellcamp is Australia’s first real “Greenfield Airport”: built on previously undeveloped land, so construction didn’t have to consider much existing infrastructure.
This site was constructed by the well-known local Wagner family, through the Wagner Corporation (www.wagner.com.au), whose businesses include quarries, concrete manufacturing, and transport.
The asphalt runway 12/30 measures 2,975 by 45 meters. There is no approach lighting, but both ends feature Precision Approach Path Indicators (PAPIs) at a three-degree glide slope. Aircraft up to a 747-8 can land here. Alongside the runway, the passenger terminal was built and opened in November 2014.
Since 2019, the Qantas Group Pilot Training Academy (https://www.qantas.com/au/en/about-us/our-company/pilot-academy.html) has been based here. Not long after, Flight Training Adelaide (FTA, https://www.flyfta.com) also moved in for pilot training. Both use a shared apron and corresponding facilities in the airport’s northwest.
Arrivals can use either visual (VFR) or RNP procedures. The nearest terrestrial navigation aids are Doppler VOR/DME OAKEY OK (112.90 MHz, TACAN channel 76) and NDB OAKEY OK (254 kHz) on the nearby Oakey Air Force Base, about 20 kilometers north of Wellcamp. The Y24 airway passes just south of the airport.
Currently, the airport can only be accessed by road—specifically, via the “Toowoomba Bypass.” There are plans to connect it to the “Inland Rail” (https://inlandrail.com.au), a standard gauge railway under development between Brisbane and Melbourne.
Scheduled flights are run by Qantas (www.qantas.com) to Sydney, and by Regional Express (www.rex.com.au) to Brisbane, Charleville, Quilpie, Windorah, Birdsville, Bedourie, Boulia, Thargomindah, St. George, Cunnamulla, and Mount Isa. From 2016 until June 10, 2025, Cathay Pacific operated a weekly cargo flight with a 747-400F or 747-8F carrying goods to Hong Kong. This service has since moved to Brisbane.
According to the operator, Wagner Corporation, these figures were reported to Airservices Australia (www.airservicesaustralia.com) for 2023:
- Passengers: 65,272
- Freight tonnage: 1,525
- Movements: 1,834

Simulation
You can buy the airport add-on for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 for about 23 euros:
https://secure.simmarket.com/auscene-1-toowoomba-wellcamp-ybww-msfs2024.phtml
Once purchased, the 3.2GB download expands to 4.4GB on your drive.
On approach, you’ll notice how harmoniously the airport sits in its dry landscape. There isn’t a lot of dramatic scenery, which is perfectly true to life, but what’s there is crafted with impressive attention to detail. The terminal is well-modeled on the outside (no interior fitting), and even the inside of the hangar for the flight schools is included.

Performance
As you’d expect from a smaller airport, performance is always very good to excellent—no matter which aircraft you pick.
Conclusion
Another strong showing from AUScene! Wellcamp will be especially interesting to flight simmers “Down Under,” yet international virtual pilots will also be happy with it.
That said… the price of around 23 euros is relatively high for such a small airport. AUScene responds (fair enough!) that smaller regional airports sell in much lower volumes than the big international hubs—so development costs still need to be recouped and a profit made.
