Earlier this month, FlightBeam Studios officially announced a major update for KSFO: Captain’s Edition with full native support for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024. Overcoming initial challenges with the new SDK, the team has successfully optimized the airport for FS2024’s enhanced features. The most noticeable improvement is the complete overhaul of ground textures, now taking full advantage of FS2024’s advanced rendering capabilities. This update eliminates previous texture limitations in MSFS 2020, allowing for more detailed aprons, taxiways, and realistic wear, such as oil stains and tire marks, closely matching real-world conditions.
Beyond textures, every asset in KSFO has been re-optimized and re-exported with the latest SDK, ensuring improved performance. The update retains key features that make KSFO a standout, including native VDGS at multiple gates, fully custom taxiway lighting with correct colors, and detailed fauna and flora around the airport. The developers emphasize their hands-on approach, relying on extensive real-world surveys instead of satellite imagery alone. In addition to this major update, FlightBeam Studios has also won the Flight Sim Award 2025 for Best MSFS Scenery, announced during the Captains’ Dinner at FSWeekend in the Netherlands.
