Tiny but Wow: Port Lincoln Airport for MSFS 2024
Impulse Simulations released the Port Lincoln Airport in the Australian state of South Australia as a detailed scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024 on August 8, 2025. Time to take a look at the original and its virtual implementation.

Reality in the Far South of Australia
Port Lincoln is a city with approximately 17,000 inhabitants and is situated on the Lower Eyre Peninsula, whose surroundings are characterized by extensive agriculture. Sheep farming, oyster farms, fishing, and tourism with boat trips, diving, and fishing secure the income of around 70,000 residents of the region.
The Real Port Lincoln Airport
With the codes PLO (IATA) and YPLC (ICAO), the airport is about 15 kilometers north of the city, accessible via road B100. To Adelaide, it is about 250 kilometers as the crow flies to the east. The three intersecting runways have the following characteristics:
- 01/19: 1,499 x 30 meters, asphalt, PAPI left
- 05/23: 1,275 x 30 meters, gravel/asphalt, without PAPI
- 15/33: 1,450 x 30 meters, gravel, without PAPI
In addition, there is an NDB (Non Directional Beacon) PORT LINCOLN PLC 389 kHz as an approach aid. Scheduled flights are operated by QantasLink and Rex Airlines with Dash 8-300 as well as Saab 340; these use only the asphalt surfaces at the terminal. The taxiways A and B are limited to a maximum of 8,000 and 5,700 kilograms, respectively.
In the 2023/2024 fiscal year, according to BITRE, 171,635 passengers and 6,563 aircraft movements were recorded. Air freight statistics are not available. The modern terminal has replaced the older building since 2013. Two flight schools/charter companies – Lincoln Air Charter and Tuna City Aviation – as well as a car rental company are based on site.
Useful Background Information:
The Implementation in the Flight Simulator
For a price of about 17 Euro, the scenery is available for MSFS at Simmarket. The download size is about 1 GByte, when installed it uses about 2 GBytes of storage space.
Characteristics of the add-on are the current layout, over 200 handcrafted and 1,000 hand-placed objects, animations, realistic lighting, and a richly detailed terminal. In the simulator, the airport integrates harmoniously into the surroundings. The high level of detail in and around the terminal is particularly convincing – perfect for an exploratory walk on the ground.
GSX Profile and Performance
Impulse Simulations delivers a specially adapted GSX profile for GSX Pro by FSDreamTeam directly included. The performance is consistently convincing and benefits from the manageable size of the airport.
Small Drawback
In MSFS 2020, a piece of barbed wire fence floats in the air at the gas station – an MSFS standard object that unfortunately cannot be removed. The impairment is minor, however.
My Conclusion
An ideal virtual destination for pilots of small to medium-sized aircraft. Impulse Simulations has created a very small but truly outstanding airport here that has earned the gold medal of the FS community!
