Flight to Napoleon’s Island: Corsica Airports Pack MSFS

In mid-January 2026, France VFR (www.francevfr.com) released the “Corsica Airports Pack for MSFS,” featuring the Corsican airports of Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte (AJA/LFKJ), Bastia Poretta (BIA/LFKB), Calvi Sainte-Catherine (CLY/LFKC), and Figari Sud Corse (FSC/LFKF) for both MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024. These sceneries were previously available as individual releases. Let’s take a flight to Napoleon’s island.

Reality

Corsica is an island in the Mediterranean covering approximately 8,800 km². Belonging to France, it is situated just twelve kilometers north of the Italian island of Sardinia. Often called the “Île de Beauté” (Isle of Beauty), this green, heavily forested island is mountainous in its northern half, with peaks rising over 2,500 meters—the highest being Monte Cinto at 2,706 meters. The southern part is notably flatter.

Around 360.000 people live in the prefecture of Ajaccio, primarily supported by agriculture, food production, viticulture, and services. Another, albeit secondary, source of income is tourism. Generally, “mainland French” visitors frequent the island, with around 40 percent of them maintaining second homes there. The local population often rejects excessive tourism, viewing it as detrimental to island culture.

The French Emperor and General Napoléon Bonaparte was born in Ajaccio on August 15, 1769. After a volatile life of military and political triumphs and defeats, he died on May 5, 1821, on the island of St. Helena, where the English had exiled him following his defeat at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Corsicans are known for their pride—some even see them as reserved or idiosyncratic. However, their hospitality is legendary: hosting and treating friends is of utmost importance. This is famously referenced in Volume 20, Asterix in Corsica, when the wife of the innkeeper tells him not to serve Asterix and Obelix “the stuff for the guests,” but something better…

Corsica features a 250-kilometer narrow-gauge railway network running from Bastia to Ajaccio and from Ponte-Leccia to Calvi. Road quality varies; generally, only the main roads connecting the major cities of Ajaccio, Bastia, Calvi, Corte, Porto-Vecchio, Propriano, and Figari are sufficiently wide and in good condition. There are three ferry ports with connections to France, Italy, and Sardinia, and the ports of Ajaccio and Bastia are also frequent stops for cruise ships.

Airports

All four civilian airports on Corsica are operated by the Établissement public du commerce et de l’industrie de Corse (the island’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry).

Ajaccio Napoléon Bonaparte (LFKJ)

The airport (ajaccio-aeroport.cci.corsica) is located about five kilometers east of the city center, right on the coast. It is regularly served by buses.

The single asphalt runway, 02/20, which lacks approach lighting, measures 2,300 by 45 meters. Years ago, the former 09/27 runway (approx. 1,500 meters) was decommissioned. Only a small section remains, serving as Taxiway HOTEL between Taxiway DELTA 1 and DELTA 2.

Runway 02 is equipped with a CAT I ILS, and both runways can be approached via RNP procedures. A special feature is the two Visual Maneuvering with Prescribed Tracks (VPT) approaches for Runway 20, which pass to the (north)east of the field—see the charts below.

Ten parking positions without jetways are available for airliners, along with five designated spots for General Aviation. Eight airlines offer connections to 27 French destinations and ten targets in seven other countries. The airport is also the headquarters of Air Corsica (www.aircorsica.com), which primarily links the four island airports to mainland France.

2024 Statistics:

  • Passengers: 1,605,212
  • Cargo: 2,313,568 kg
  • Mail: 4,322,274 kg
  • Flight Movements: 12,024

Bastia Poretta (LFKB)

Located twenty kilometers south of the city of Bastia in northern Corsica, Poretta Airport (bastia-aeroport.cci.corsica) sits south of the shallow “Étang de Biguglia” lagoon.

The asphalt runway 16/34 is 2,300 meters long and 45 meters wide. It also lacks approach lighting. Runway 34 features a CAT I ILS. Both runways can be reached via RNP procedures or using the BASTIA BTA conventional VOR (114.15 MHz), located 0.6 NM before the threshold of Runway 16. A southern approach to Runway 16 is also possible via a VPT approach leading over the Mediterranean.

The “Commercial Apron” provides eleven parking positions for airliners and 33 for General Aviation. Some positions cannot be used simultaneously depending on aircraft size. Ten airlines provide connections to 21 French and 18 international destinations across twelve countries.

2025 Statistics:

  • Passengers: 1,532,265
  • Cargo: 8,847,433 kg
  • Flight Movements: 84,849

Calvi Sainte-Catherine (LFKC)

Located five kilometers southeast of Calvi in northwestern Corsica, the airport (calvi-aeroport.cci.corsica) is named after Saint Catherine of Alexandria, the patron saint of schools and philosophy faculties.

The concrete runway 18/36 is 2,310 meters long and 45 meters wide. Again, no approach lighting is installed. Based on the charts, Sainte-Catherine is a “one-way” airport: due to hills rising nearly 1,000 meters directly south of the field, landings usually occur to the south, while takeoffs are exclusively to the north. Runway 18 is equipped with Localizer and RNP approaches. Additionally, Category A, B, and C aircraft can approach Runway 36 via a “Circle to Land” west of the runway. North of the field, the CALVI CV NDB (375 kHz) stands 150 meters east of the coast, serving as the starting point for lower airways A32 and Y16.

The apron in front of the terminal offers nine parking positions. Eight spots are designated for business aviation and five for general aviation. Seven airlines connect Calvi to 14 French and ten international destinations.

2025 Statistics:

  • Passengers: 399,349
  • Cargo: 4,376 kg
  • Flight Movements: 12.298

Figari Sud Corse (LFKF)

Figari Airport (figari-aeroport.cci.corsica) is situated three kilometers northwest of the small town in southern Corsica.

The asphalt runway 05/23 measures 2,480 by 45 meters. Runway 05 is equipped with a Lead-in Lighting System (LDIN), while Runway 23 features a LOCALIZER approach (course only, no glideslope) without approach lighting. Due to hills rising up to 1,400 meters north and northeast of the runway, it has a 1.7-degree offset to the south; the antenna is located a few meters to the left behind Runway 05. The conventional VOR/DME FIGARI FGI (116.70 MHz) is located outside the airport perimeter, about 800 meters north of the 05 threshold.

Both runways can be approached via RNP procedures or the VOR. Visual approaches are, of course, possible. The commercial apron has ten parking positions without jetways. There are 16 spots for general aviation and four for helicopters. Ten airlines connect to 28 French and 12 international airports.

2024 Statistics:

  • Passengers: 877,070
  • Flight Movements: 12,298

Simulation

A common feature of all France VFR Corsican airports is their seamless integration into the environment in both supported simulators. All airports reflect the current real-world state with plausible texturing and lighting. Full chart sets from the Service de l’Information Aéronautique (SIA) (www.sia.aviation-civile.gouv.fr) are included.

None of the airports feature terminal interiors. However, interiors are usually hard to see from the cockpit anyway. To compensate, the landside and airside areas are highly detailed. In Ajaccio and Bastia, Canadair CL-415 fire-fighting aircraft are visible—accurately reflecting their real-world stations.

Ground markings, signage, and the hardware for land-based navigation aids match their real-world counterparts. There are animated people, vehicles, and flags. In Ajaccio, the Runway Guard Lights (“Wig Wags”) at the holding points are correctly placed. Performance across all airports is excellent, as expected for their size.

The download is approximately 1 GB, requiring about 2.8 GB of disk space once installed.

Availability

The pack is available at SIMMARKET for around 30 Euros (roughly ten Euros cheaper than buying the airports individually): SIMMARKET: France VFR Corsica Airports Pack

GSX Pro Profiles

France VFR provides in-house GSX Pro profiles for nearly all their airports, including these four: VFR Network Forum: GSX Profiles

Direct Download: GSX Profile Setup

The included installer tries to copy all profiles into the GSX Pro folder. This only makes sense if you own all the sceneries. If you only have a few, it is better to change the installation path (e.g., to C:\FVFRMSFS) and manually copy the required profiles to: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Virtuali\GSX\MSFS

Conclusion: “Not the stuff for the guests!”

Well done, France VFR!

Only minor issues, such as reversed fire trucks in Ajaccio, an unretouched white aircraft shadow at Calvi, and a PAPI on Runway 05 in Figari (which shouldn’t be there according to current charts), slightly mar the otherwise great impression. France VFR has noted these “repairs” for the next update.

These airports are truly “not the stuff for guests”—they are meant for friends of immersive flight simulation, created by one of the most prominent and active labels in France.
