Of course the release didn’t go to play – did anyone actually expect it to? After some trials, tribulations, at least one false start and some prodding by Valve, Dovetail Games Train Simulator 2016 is now available to download and play.

Existing users will get small upgrades; some UI changes, a better search function and that’s about it, from the free upgrade path, while if you pay the £30/€40 approx price for the full version (currently discounted on Steam) then you’ll get a new route (Riviera Line in the 50s), two upgraded routes (Koln – Koblenz, Sherman Hill) and a large number of locos, which DTG say are unique to the package and will not be available later as separate DLC.

German customers can get a boxed version of TS2016 published by Aerosoft, through simMarket here, while non-German language users will have to head for the TS2016 page at Steam.

  1. Would urge anyone considering buying to see the user reviews on Steam. If this is the way Flight Sim is going to go, we will be flying FSX or P3D for a very long time.
