Drzewiecki Design – KEWR Newark Liberty XP12 Preview

Drzewiecki Design is hard at work on a highly anticipated scenery for X-Plane 12: KEWR Newark Liberty International Airport, one of the busiest and most complex airports in the U.S. Northeast. The latest preview shows that development is moving full steam ahead, with impressive progress across terminals, taxiways, and the airport’s unique layout.

Most of the key infrastructure is already modeled, and attention is now shifting to finer details. Despite the heavy structural complexity of Newark, the team is putting strong emphasis on performance, using carefully tuned LOD techniques to balance detail and smooth frame rates — a crucial factor for a major hub like this.

Custom animated jetways are being integrated and tested with various aircraft types, while the surrounding environment is being manually enhanced to reflect the authentic approach into Newark using X-Plane 12’s native assets.

One technical hurdle — X-Plane’s handling of lighting through transparent materials — is being addressed with a custom solution that will ensure terminal interiors look alive at night without sacrificing performance or realism.

Interior previews will come later, as the team ensures they meet the studio’s high standards. July may be a slightly slower development month due to travel schedules, but work continues steadily in the background.

No release window has been announced yet, but based on current progress, KEWR for XP12 is shaping up to be a flagship addition to Drzewiecki Design’s portfolio — and a must-have for X-Plane pilots who frequent the U.S. East Coast.
