Right in the Middle: Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport (KBJC) by Propair Flight

Propair Flight (propairflight.com) from Hungary has a knack for heading to the U.S. and recreating smaller airfields for flight simulation. After St. George in Utah (see the special “Off the US Mainlines”), the team turned to Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport—better known to simmers by its ICAO, KBJC—for MSFS 2020 and 2024. More recently, they also released Goose Bay in Canada.

The Real Airport

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport is located in Broomfield, Jefferson County, Colorado, on roughly 688 hectares, carrying the IATA/ICAO codes BJC/KBJC. Situated about 20 km southwest of Boulder and roughly 30 km northwest of Denver, it sits in prime Front Range scenery; Denver International is about 40 km to the east. Official airport info: jeffco.us/airport.

  • Runways: 3/21, 12L/30R, and 12R/30L
    • Length/width: 1,097 × 23 m; 2,743 × 30 m; 2,134 × 23 m
  • Navigation: RWY 30R features a CAT I ILS with MALSR approach lighting. RWYs 12L, 30L, and 30R support RNAV procedures and can be flown using the on-field Doppler VOR/DME JEFFCO BJC on 115.40 MHz.
  • Role: Classified as a reliever airport for larger hubs, KBJC can absorb diverted traffic from nearby fields such as Eagle County or Aspen, though ramp space is limited. Due to maximum runway width of 30 m, types like the A320 and B737 are not permitted.
  • Tenants and services: Signature Aviation (signatureaviation.com), Sheltair (sheltairaviation.com), Pilatus Aircraft (pilatus-aircraft.com), and ATP Flight School (atpflightschool.com) operate on site.
  • Special operations: The United States Forest Service (USFS) (fs.usda.gov) maintains an Air Tanker Base (ATB) here, with aircraft such as converted BAe 146/RJ85A air tankers refueled and water-loaded for firefighting.

The Add-on: What You Get

Propair Flight’s KBJC is available at:

The airfield integrates seamlessly into its surroundings and reflects the current development state with plausibly textured buildings and plenty of ground-side detail.

  • Ground markings and signage appear complete.
  • A busy static GA population can be toggled on or off in the current version.
  • The terminal interior is not modeled; attempts to “enter” result in a quirky camera hop to the roof.

Version Notes

The on-field VOR/DME was missing as a 3D object in the initial release but was added in v1.1. The model, however, looks a bit off—let’s call it a “melted bundt cake.” The developer has been asked to refine it in a future update.

Verdict

Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport by Propair Flight is a well-executed regional field set in genuinely sensational Front Range scenery—ideal for GA, business, and regional jet operations in and around Denver. If you enjoy U.S. hops in smaller to mid-size aircraft, this one’s an easy recommendation.

  • Pros
    • Seamless scenery integration and convincing airside detail
    • Complete ground markings/signage; optional static aircraft
    • Strong location for VFR training and short IFR legs along the Front Range
  • Cons
    • No terminal interior; camera clipping if you try to enter
    • VOR/DME 3D model needs another polish pass

Recommended.
