TFDi Design has officially released its long-awaited MD-11 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. The aircraft is available as a complete package including both Passenger and Freighter variants, and is officially licensed by Boeing.
The MD-11 is presented as a high-fidelity simulation aimed at advanced simmers, with a strong focus on system depth, flight management accuracy, and faithful reproduction of the aircraft’s unique handling characteristics. Development is based on real-world pilot and maintenance manuals, as well as operational experience.
⭐ Key Features
- ✈️ Advanced FMS & Autopilot – Full SID/STAR support, airways, custom waypoints, holds, wind data, time & fuel prediction, performance and cost index management
- 🛠️ Realistic AFS – Complete autoflight and autothrottle logic from takeoff pitch guidance to dual AUTOLAND, including LSAS and optional RCWS for assisted hand flying
- 🖥️⃢ Authentic Displays – Six rounded MD-11 displays with CRT warm-up sequences, display computer simulation, screen shuffling, and deep customization options
- ⚙️ Deep Systems – Fully simulated electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, air and fuel systems with realistic load propagation, pressure behavior, bleed logic and fuel temperature management
- 📦 Passenger + Freighter – Both variants included with cockpit, systems, and configuration differences, plus full system-state persistence between flights
At the core of the simulation is a comprehensive systems model. Electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, air, and fuel systems are fully simulated, including realistic load propagation, pressure behavior over time, bleed air logic influenced by configuration and environment, and complex fuel transfer and temperature management. Full system state persistence allows flights to be resumed exactly where they were left.
Flight controls replicate several MD-11-specific features such as the dial-a-flap system, control surface droop, and deflected aileron package. The autoflight system is modeled in depth, covering all phases from takeoff pitch guidance through to dual autoland. Lateral Stability Augmentation System (LSAS) and optional Roll Control Wheel Steering (RCWS) are also included to support manual flight.
The aircraft is equipped with an advanced Flight Management System supporting SIDs, STARs, airways, holding patterns, custom waypoints, wind data entry, and realistic fuel and time predictions with cost index management. ACARS and CPDLC functionality is simulated via the MCDU for in-flight communication with air traffic control.
The cockpit features six rounded digital displays with detailed CRT behavior, including warm-up sequences, display computer simulation, screen shuffling, and extensive configuration options. Engine and systems synoptics, alert logic, and master caution/warning behavior are fully implemented.
Multiple engine variants are available, allowing users to select between the General Electric CF6-80C2 and Pratt & Whitney PW4460/4462. Each engine type features distinct performance characteristics, sound profiles, and system behavior, driven by a custom FADEC simulation.
The TFDi Design MD-11 was nominated for Best Airliner in Microsoft Flight Simulator at the Flight Sim Awards 2025.
