Octavi IFR-1- Review

The Octavi IFR-1 is a flight simulator instrument panel designed to enhance the realism and immersion of flight simulation experiences. As an avid flight simulation enthusiast, I recently had the opportunity to test and review the Octavi IFR-1, and I must say that it impressed me with its functionality and attention to detail.

One of the standout features of the Octavi IFR-1 is its build quality. The panel is solidly constructed, with a sturdy frame and high-quality materials that give it a premium feel. The buttons and knobs have a satisfying tactile response, and the overall design is sleek and modern, adding a professional touch to any flight simulator setup.

Setting up the Octavi IFR-1 was very simple ! It connects easily to the computer via USB, and the plug-and-play functionality ensures a hassle-free installation process. The panel is compatible with popular flight simulation software, including Microsoft Flight Simulator , making it versatile for a wide range of users.

The Octavi instrument panel, dubbed “the world’s smallest cockpit,” offers a compact and intuitive solution for controlling major instruments in a flight simulator. Designed by Octavi, this all-in-one device aims to provide functionality while taking up minimal space on your desk or near your collective. In this review, we will explore the features, performance, and overall user experience of the Octavi instrument panel.

The Octavi instrument panel impresses with its small form factor, measuring approximately 11cm x 7.5cm x 1cm. It is incredibly lightweight and made of high-quality plastic, with a sleek flat black finish and glossy accents on the bottom where the six buttons are located. The rubber buttons are responsive and pleasant to the touch, contributing to the overall positive impression of the unit’s build quality.

Installation of the Octavi instrument panel is straightforward. It currently supports Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) and X-Plane, and it requires the use of a program called MobiFlight. After installing the software and connecting the unit via the provided USB-C to USB-A cable, it is ready to use.

In terms of performance, the Octavi instrument panel delivers a reliable and seamless experience. During testing in both MSFS , the unit worked flawlessly The eight-button group allows for instrument selection, while the four buttons on the right serve as convenient shortcuts for GPS operations. The six-button group at the bottom is particularly useful for autopilot functions, and the dual-rotary encoder performs exceptionally well. Despite its compact size, the unit effectively functions as 12 rotary encoders, thanks to the shift mode feature. By activating the shift mode, the blue-labeled buttons provide additional functions, expanding the panel’s versatility.

One area where the Octavi instrument panel could benefit from improvement is in providing clearer feedback regarding the shift mode. Currently, there is no visual indication of whether the unit is in normal or shift mode, requiring users to test buttons or rotate the encoder to determine the mode. Including small LEDs with different colors, positioned to the left and right of the rotary encoder, could greatly enhance the user experience and alleviate any confusion.

The programming capability of the Octavi instrument panel is a standout feature. While the labels on the unit may suggest limited functionality, the panel’s true potential lies in its compatibility with MobiFlight. Through MobiFlight, users can program custom functions and assign them to the available buttons and encoders. This flexibility allows for personalized configurations tailored to individual preferences and specific aircraft simulations. MobiFlight is a good software that is easy to use . Thanks to his flexibility we configured our H145 to work with this fantastic panel , thanks to Variables binding between buttons of IFR and MSFS custom variables of HPG.

Our fantastic experience started configuring H145 HPG variables with buttons events of OCTAVI IFR-1 via MobiFlight. Mobiflight is part of this experience with IFR-1 . Both product works togheter in a brilliant way . After 10 minutes we were able start our flight with our Puma X PFT hardware and Octavi IFR-1 . This panel is very useful for all planes but , in my opinion for Helicopters give me the help that i searched for long time …. easy to use and well designed product !

In conclusion, the Octavi instrument panel offers a compact and ergonomic solution for controlling major instruments in a flight simulator. Its small size, combined with its intuitive design and solid build quality, make it a compelling choice for simmers seeking a space-saving solution without compromising functionality. The unit performs reliably, with the shift mode expanding its capabilities, and the programming options through MobiFlight provide extensive customization possibilities. With some minor enhancements to provide clearer feedback on the shift mode, the Octavi instrument panel has the potential to become a go-to choice for sim enthusiasts.
