Aberdeen Airport (EGPD), is located in Dyce, a suburb of Aberdeen, Scotland, has a rich history dating back to its beginnings in the early 20th century.

Aberdeen Airport was officially opened on May 30, 1934, it was a grass airstrip located in Dyce. The airport was primarily used for military purposes during this period.
During World War II, Aberdeen Airport played a significant role as a Royal Air Force (RAF) base. It served as a key location for RAF Coastal Command, hosting various squadrons and contributing to maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare efforts in the North Sea. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Aberdeen Airport continued to expand its infrastructure to meet the growing demand for air travel. New terminals, runways, and navigation equipment were added, enhancing the airport’s capacity and efficiency. The airport also saw an increase in international flights, particularly to destinations in Europe.

Today, Aberdeen Airport serves as a vital transportation hub for the northeast of Scotland, facilitating both domestic and international air travel. It plays a crucial role in supporting the region’s economy, particularly in industries such as oil and gas, tourism, and commerce. With ongoing developments and upgrades, Aberdeen Airport remains an essential gateway for travellers visiting Scotland and a key asset for the local community. Aberdeen is often referred to as the “Oil Capital of Europe” due to its significant role in the offshore oil and gas sector. Many oil and gas companies operating in the North Sea basin have their operational bases in and around Aberdeen. Helicopters are the primary mode of transportation for personnel travelling to and from offshore installations such as oil rigs and platforms. Several helicopter operators, including Bristow Helicopters, CHC Helicopters, NHV and Babcock Mission Critical Services Offshore, provide scheduled flights between Aberdeen Airport and offshore installations.
