Oculus Rift for a new 3D game experience

The gaming experience has improved over the years with the use of 3D graphics, the screens resolution and display technology, the new game controls devices. Oculus Rift will be another step forward.

Planned for public release next year for PC and Android, Oculus Rift is a virtual reality mask, like virtual glasses for more immersion with a unique view controlled by your head movements. The same device can be used to watch videos and TV. For now, the pre order of the development kit (300 US$) is restricted, see their website https://www.oculusvr.com/order/.

  3. It’s not the motion sickness you have to worry about, its the fact that the displays in the dev units are that low in resolution its like turning the clock back 25 years. They are only 640X800 and its like looking through a thick screen door because of the huge gap between each pixel. In summary it looks like crap and you likely wont be able to read text in a FSX VC for example.

    If the consumer units are ever released they are supposed to be 1920X1080 but I think it will be a long time yet before the tech catches up and that 1920X1080 is shared between both eyes, so in effect the resolution is halved per eye.

In addition to what was mentioned above, the fact that you are using a relatively complex simulator and should reach a wide range of buttons on the keyboard or your controllers, it makes no sense to block your eyes… It is however interesting for full virtual reality experiences such as those coupled with a motion sensors like Kinect… For FSX or similar complex simulator, one is better off with multiple monitors setups for a surround view experience…

  6. :):) Looks like something you’d see from 1980 or something, the cord attached to the goggles does it for me, that’d be annoying !! I’ll stick with my TRACK-IR-5, it works just fine and no cords attached going to my head and no bulky attachments dangling from my head.
