New F/A-18E Coming To FS

Cody Bergland reports that “……Vertical Reality Simulations has released a munitions video demo of their F/A-18E being developed for FS2004 and FSX. The video shows briefly a target being locked onto and fired at by an AIM-120……”.
“…… Crafted by a small, dedicated team of developers who also happen to be engineers in real life, the VRS F/A-18E seeks to provide what many believe is by far the most comprehensive overall simulation of ANY combat aircraft ever created for the Flight Simulator franchise. VRS has created a truly remarkable and faithful reproduction of the U.S. Navy’s newest strike fighter…..”.

  1. Looking very good! A professionally simulated fighter jet would be excellent to have for training purposes for my work.

  2. I know this is a simulator and you can drop bombs and shoot missiles, but are there air to air combat missions in this game or what?

  3. No. There are not – at least until someone works out how to do it using an external module or the missions system (which is far from impossible).

Microsoft Flight Sim is a purely flight simulator and does not include combat of any kind as part of the package. Some add-ons have got working air-to-ground munitions included – as this one has – but you cannot fly around destroying anything you like. You can hit it, but only the bomb effect will explode, not the “target” unless code is in place specifically to make it. There have also been some add-ons that claim to include working (unguided weapon only) air-to-air combat, but I’ve never seen one working. Finally, there’s also been the threat of guided weapons for some time, but that add-on has yet to see the light of day – there has been a lot of interest in it whenever it has been mentioned.

For modern air combat, right now, you’d be better with Falcon 4, LOMAC or similar.
