Laminar Research has released a video preview of the upcoming X-Plane 12.3.0, offering an exciting look at major improvements to the weather radar system. For the first time, X-Plane will support true 3D spatial scanning for onboard weather radar, allowing sim pilots to visualize cloud structures using tilt-adjustable, two-dimensional cross-sections.

The G1000/X1000 avionics suite will also receive an update to support both horizontal and vertical radar scans—provided the aircraft is equipped with compatible onboard radar. These enhancements mark a significant step toward more immersive and realistic weather interaction in X-Plane. Version 12.3.0 is expected to release in 2025.
